Sean has been a Director on the Agrifoods Board since 2012 and is actively involved in several committees: Governance & Member, Investment, Finance & Audit, and Human Resources. Drawing on his knowledge and experience from being board member for Saskmilk and the Chair/President of several organizations (Saskatchewan Dairy Association, The Canadian Young Farmers Forum, and Western Canadian Seminar) he contributes a unique perspective to important discussions for Agrifoods’ success.
“I value the opportunity to learn a new business that opens my mind to non-traditional ideas and to represent brands that are known for being good for you. It’s great to be surrounded by people that are passionate about what they do, and to be able to work together towards a common goal.”
Although Sean grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan that has been milking cows since 1932, he wasn’t always sure that this was where he was meant to be. He took a break from farming for a couple years and went to work in the city, but then followed his heart back to the farm and has been working in the industry ever since! He does admit he misses Sunday brunch in the city but ultimately, he is proud to be part of the Canadian dairy industry and loves the challenge of trying new things and being able to see results almost immediately. Sometimes that means learning lessons the hard way, such as using almost every milking system that was developed.
Family is very important to Sean and he recognizes that it’s a gift to be able to take his son and daughter to work and watch them learn good work ethics – to see them gain confidence from being part of something that is a family tradition.
While Sean enjoys boating and taking care of his family yard in his leisure time, he also spends part of his free time showcasing his talent for entertaining people. When he’s not out on the farm, you can find him on stage performing comedy shows with a group that he founded, along two others who are also sons of dairy farmers. He also calls into a morning radio show in Regina a couple times a week. So, tune into 94.5 FM to hear farmer Sean put his spin on the radio show’s topic of the day!
